Register for betting tax

Betting tax is a self-assessed tax on the taxable wagering revenue (TWR) of a betting operator’s betting transactions with customers in Queensland.

Betting operators who reach the annual threshold amount must register with us and lodge monthly and annual returns. In limited cases, monthly returns may not be required.

On-course bookmakers are only required to lodge and pay tax on an annual basis once their TWR exceeds the threshold.

When to register

As a betting operator, you must register for betting tax with us within 7 days of the end of the first month that your TWR equals or exceeds the annual threshold amount. For example, if your TWR equals or exceeds the annual threshold amount during March 2023, you must register for betting tax by 7 April 2023.

How to register

You first need to create an individual QRO Online account and verify your identity. (You cannot set up a generic account for a company.) Then link your individual account to the taxpayer.

See instructions on how to:

Once your account has been validated, select the Registration tile from the QRO Online homepage.
