Quarterly return lodgers
If you are required to lodge quarterly returns, you must pay royalty monthly (unless we tell you that it can be paid quarterly).
Lodge quarterly, pay monthly
- Returns are due by the last business day of the month following the end of the return period. This is the case regardless of whether the operation ended during the quarterly return period.
- Monthly payments are due:
- first instalment—last business day of the second month of the quarter
- second instalment—last business day of the third month of the quarter
- third instalment—last business day of the month following the end of the quarter. This is the same day the quarterly return is due to be lodged.

Annual return lodgers
The due date to lodge—and pay for—an annual royalty return is 30 September (that is, 3 months after the end of the return period). If this falls on a weekend or public holiday, the due date is the next business day.
If the return relates to an operation that ended during the annual return period, you must lodge a final return within 3 months after the end of the operation.
