Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2024
The Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 was introduced today, with changes to the Duties Act and Payroll Tax Act.
The Bill amends the:
- Duties Act 2001 to
- provide full transfer (stamp) duty relief to eligible first home owners entering into eligible transactions to purchase a new home to live in or vacant land on which they will build a home to live in, from 1 May 2025
- enable recipients of the transfer duty home concessions to rent part of their property during the 1-year occupation period and retain the full benefit of this relief, from 6 December 2024 (rent-a-room measure)
- Payroll Tax Act 1971 to introduce an exemption to wages paid by medical practices to general practitioners, from 1 December 2024 (payroll tax exemption measure).
The rent-a-room and payroll tax exemption measures will be provided under administrative arrangements, pending legislative amendment.
The Bill will be available on the Queensland Legislation website.
Home concessions and partial renting
Changes have been made to the lease arrangement dates for home concessions from 6 December 2024.
After you move in, you’ll be able to lease or rent part of the property if the lease arrangement started on 10 September 2024 or later. You must continue to live in the property. All other eligibility criteria remain the same.
Office closure—Christmas 2024
Our office will close from 5.00pm on Tuesday 24 December for the Christmas – New Year period. We will re-open on Thursday 2 January 2025.
Public ruling DA000.19.1
The Commissioner has issued a public ruling on the duty exemption for pharmacy businesses complying with the Pharmacy Business Ownership Act (DA000.19.1).
Payroll tax due dates
The November periodic return is due Monday 9 December; and the December return is due Tuesday 14 January. See all due dates.
